Thank you, 2010!

In the KICK OFF Magazine August 2018 issue, I was reading a letter posted by Matome Kubu regarding the 2010 World Cup. I completely disagree with his sentiments, especially with the statement that read as follows: “We hoped we would all benefit from the 2010 World Cup that was organised on our shores.” Let me tell you my story: I am a former professional footballer and enjoyed a career with Manning Rangers and FCAK, having come through the SuperSport United Academy. I stopped playing the game because of a recurring knee injury, which was the saddest time of my life. When I heard we were going to host the 2010 showpiece. I told myself that I would not let this opportunity pass me by. In 2010 I started a community-driven project dealing with grassroots football and it has a been a great success. I received funding from the 2010 legacy trust fund to further my studies. I am happy to say to you that with us hosting the 2010 World Cup, it opened doors for me and I am now employed.
