Kick Off

‘I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER’

Thembinkosi Lorch was inconsolable after missing the final penalty of the 2018 Telkom Knockout shootout as he blazed his spot-kick over the bar to hand Baroka the title after a pulsating 120 minutes which left the teams all square at 2-2.

“To be honest, I’m heartbroken,” he said after the game. “I feel like I cost the team. The red card killed us, but I think after the red card we managed to play well. We were not sitting back; we were attacking them and we managed to get the second goal. Unfortunately we lost on penalties.” Lorch, who finished as the tournament’s top scorer with four goals, knows he should have done better from the spot, yet is confident his side can bounce back as they target the three other cups on offer for the rest of the campaign. “I could have done better to score a penalty for us to go into sudden death,” he says. “But it wasn’t to be. We worked hard to go to penalties. Credit must go to all the guys, the technical team for believing in us. It was just not our day. “I’d like to say to the supporters that they must keep on supporting us as we still have three cups to play for. We’ll make them happy.”
