TERRIBLE TWINS
The SuperSport United duo of Sipho Mbule and Tebogo Mokoena will be carrying the hopes of many South Africans when the Under-23 side travel to Tokyo, Japan for the Olympics later this year. The tournament was meant to be played in 2020 but had to be postponed to due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Mbule and Mokoena came through the Harmony Sports Academy before getting signed and promoted by SuperSport. They are now regulars in Kaitano Tembo’s starting eleven.
“I’ve been playing with Tebogo for a long time,” Mbule says. “We came through the academy [Harmony Sports Academy] in Bethlehem and we understand each other well.
“We do communicate on the field, but we have a telepathic understanding – when Tebogo has the ball, he knows where to find me without looking. Same goes for me, I understand what he wants to do before he can make a move.
“At Harmony we played a Champions of Champions match against Bidvest Wits at Nike Center, that was a memorable match. We had also a great game against [Welsh side] Swansea at the Bayhill Cup in Cape Town.
“I came on as a substitute in that match and we combined well and won the game 3-1. Hopefully we can take our combination to the Olympics.”
