Kick Off

Fastest goal

-

Aleni Lebyane netted after nine seconds, live on television wherew the timing could be measured, as Free State Stars started off in perfect fashion against Santos in the PSL on February 3, 2001, only for the game to end in 3-3 stalemate.

In the first season of the NPSL in 1971, John Makhubu set the initial record for the fastest goal with the opener for Moroka Swallows Big XV against PUBS after just 30 seconds.

Five years later, Abednigo ‘Shaka’ Ngcobo took just 10 seconds to give Chiefs the lead in their meeting with Moroka Swallows at Vosloorus, but there was no way to double check the claim as there was no TV at that time. The word of those who were there had to suffice.

In 1989 there were three goals in under 15 seconds in a single season, a most unusual feat – Reggie Jantjies for Hellenic against Bush Bucks, Rogers Lupiya for Free State Stars versus Giant Blackpool and Albert Bwalya against AmaZulu in the colours of Wits University.
