Lamontville Golden Arrows’ 6-0 thumping of Ajax Cape TownT in the MTN8 final of 2009 is the largest winning margin in a South African cup final in the multi-racial era.

The one-sided result, engineered by coach Manqoba Mngqnithi and with Njabulo Manqana scoring twice, is one goal better than the 5-0 win that Kaizer Chiefs enjoyed jy over Jomo

Cosmos in the 2001 win of the Coca-Cola Cup, which is now known as the Telkom Knockout. A week later, Chiefs went on to win the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

Chiefs had also held the record before that for their 5-1 win over AmaZulu in the second leg of the BP Top Eight Cup final, played in December 1976. Chiefs won the first leg 3-1 and went

gon to record an 8-2 aggregate triumph.

But the biggest cup final win in the history of South African professional soccer came in 1974 when Orlando Pirates beat second division Manchester City of Mabopane 9-1 in the second leg of the decider of the Champion of Champions.

Pirates had been held to a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Mamelodi.
