Worst away record

-

It is doubtful the worst away record in top flight football will ever be broken.

It was set by Mother City in the 1999/2000 season when each club played 34 games rather than the current 30 and lost all 17 away games, scoring seven times and conceding 57 goals at an average of 3,5 goals conceded per game.

Mpumalanga Black Aces, when they went down in 2011, won just one of their 15 away games and lost the other 14. In other words, they picked up just three away points, bizarrely against the side that went onto win the championship – Orlando Pirates – courtesy of a Mpho Maleka goal.

In 2010, last placed Jomo Cosmos did not win a single away match but drew seven. In 2009, Bloemfontein Celtic also failed to win on the road and drew just six times but were strong enough at home to finish 14th.
