Development must be prioritised in Bafana
The lack of development of players has been Bafana Bafana’s obstacle to fulfil their progressive ambition.
We have young players that want to breakthrough into the highest-level of football but are being deprived by senior club coaches that opt for old players with vast experience. The football governing body has no plan to protect these young players that would force clubs to have certain numbers of young players in the starting eleven. We have active lower divisions that prioritise youth to promote their brand.
The NFD is supposed to be a feeder for senior clubs to recruit players, but clubs don’t want to groom players for future.
If clubs fail to recruit young players and prepare them with experience for Bafana, then we’ll always be a laughingstock. Bafana is plummeting, and the decline reflects on the FIFA ranking, despite having resources.
It’s an embarrassment to see Bafana underachieve while the country produces great leaders in the continent. Those at helm must take responsibility for team’s decline and not shift the blame. By Wandile Mtana Mbala-kaNkqoshe, Uitenhage
