Kick Off

Themba Zwane

-

‘Mshishi’ is back again and, at 31-years-old, seems to be maturing like fine wine. He remains an integral figure in Sundowns’ setup, leading the team’s charge for a record fourth successive league title. Zwane is proving that his PSL Footballer of the Season award from 2019/20 was no fluke and he will be hoping not only to defend his crown, but also this time around add the KICK OFF gong to his impressive collection of individual accolades. The midfield maestro quickly shrugged off the shock departure of long-time mentor Pitso Mosimane to Egyptian giants Al Ahly at the start of the season and, in spite of widespread reports that he was wanted for a reunion with the 56-year-old tactician, he maintained his consistency by scoring some crucial goals and assists for the team. He has again crossed over into double figures with his goal contributions and netted an impressive hat-trick early on in the campaign. Even though many defenders are fully aware of his threat, they continue to scratch their heads at the questions he poses in attack, linking up with a vast array of quality players around him. Zwane has also attributed his personal form, as well as that of the team, to the excellent camaraderie in their camp which has been enhanced by the addition of experienced coach Steve Komphela to the Sundowns technical team.
