Deon Hotto
2019 KICK OFF Footballer of the Season Deon Hotto is back again after impressing in his first season at Orlando Pirates. The Namibia international has scored and assisted in every single competition he has featured in in 2020/21, including the DStv Premiership, MTN8, CAF Conf federation Cup and Nedbank k Cup. He is one of Josef Zinnbauer’s go-to meen, having featured in all of thhe team’s domestic fixtures and, like Makaringe, has missed just two matches in all competittions as at the end of March, whether he has been in the starting line-up or coming in off the bench. His link-up play with the likes of Vincent Pule and Thembinkosi Lorch up front is what kept Pirates going during the absence of all their key strikers. Having spent most of his time with so-called ‘smaller’ clubs, Hotto is proving that no shoes are too big for him to fill as he steps up for the Soweto giants, whom he helped end a six-year trophy drought with the MTN8 trophy early on in the season. “The boy works very hard and on top of it he is very disciplined off the field. He is currently one of the two best players in Namibia, [together with] Peter from Sundowns,” the Brave Warriors’ assistant coach Robert Nauseb revealed.
