Augustine Mulenga
Augustine Mulenga was largely considered a ‘flop’ at Orlando Pirates, where he managed just 39 starts in oneand-a-half seasons of working under coaches Milutin Sredojevic, Rhulani Mokoena and Josef Zinnbauer. But his move to AmaZulu at the start of the season and working under legendary former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy has afforded him an opportunity to reaffirm his quality. Weirdly, Mulenga was initially unveiled by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, who later explained that the player reneged on their initial agreement after being presented with an opportunity to join Usuthu. His arrival along with some highprofile signings, including the likes of Siphiwe Tshabalala, Luvuyo Memela, Xola Mlambo and Phakamani Mahlambi marked a new era for the club, as Sandile and Manzini Zungu took over from Dr Patrick Sokhela in October last year. The stocky attacker proved the most influential in the league, with eight assists to his name – his nearest rivals being on five assists – as at the end of March. When he’s not assisting teammates, the Zambian international has no qualms in taking the responsibility upon his own shoulders and chipping in with some crucial goals that have helped the club to some impressive victories to climb the DStv Premiership table since the turn of the year. The 31-year-old is proving most effective when operating out on the right-flank, where he is able to cut inside and combine with the likes of Memela, Siphelele Mthembu and Lehlohonolo Majoro, who have also chipped in with some important goals this season.
