WHAT’S IN A NAME?
If Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila was a mouthful for fans last season, there were quizzical looks over the club’s new name of Marumo Gallants for the 2021-22 campaign. The translation of ‘Marumo’ from iSepedi means ‘Sword’‚ but it can also be interpreted as ‘Bravery’.
To be ‘gallant’ also means to be brave or heroic, continuing the theme, though it can also refer to being charming towards women!
The whole premise is meant to display the club as a brave group of warriors who will fight on the pitch to make sure the team is successful. “’Marumo Gallants’ is a promise to all our fans that we will fight to continue to remain in the league for all time‚” owner Abram Sello said. “The name was inspired by our journey [to fight relegation] from when we bought [the club] until the end of last season.”
