Celtic sale could have been prevented

- By Wandile Mtana, Uitenhage

I have no quarrel on club sales because any team that faces imminent liquidation needs an urgent buyer to be relieved from insolvency, but my scepticism is around how the deals are processed.

The lack of transparency makes everyone involved in the club look bad and always end in tears to those left behind. Transparency would likely prevent those individuals who want to satisfy their insatiable appetite to acquire the club to benefit themselves and leave club’s legacy in tatters.

I bet there was a lot interest from Free State or around the country, passionate Celtic faithful, who wanted to salvage the club from owner Max Tshabalala.

Look now at Celtic and how the club with so much history is being treated badly in front of their supporters’ eyes. We truly sympathize with them but one day someone will plant a seed of consciousness to PSL to realise that football is like life and death, and you don’t compromise when we put our faith in it.

Ntate Manamela was an architect who made sure this club maintained its momentum and passed away happy that his dream was preserved but must now be turning to his grave at seeing his legacy being tarnished. He left behind an indelible legacy for everyone to benefit but Max sold the soul of the club. I feel the pain of club supporters after much sacrifice and emotion offered to this club.

Celtic was like a religion to them as allegiance runs deep. We’ll forever cherish and reminisce about the good times with Celtic and their contribution to our game.
