Keurbooms attack: 3rd suspect caught
A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal attack on an elderly Keurbooms resident.
According to police, three armed men stormed the 87-year-old man’s home in Keurbooms Heights when he opened his kitchen door on Monday evening 5 February.
The suspects allegedly attacked the victim with a crowbar and then tied him up before taking him to a top-floor bedroom. They then allegedly ransacked the house before fleeing with a flat screen television, two watches, a wallet, various credit cards and R1 600 in cash. They also made off with the victim’s A-Class Mercedes Benz.
The first two suspects were arrested the following morning after an off-duty Bitou law enforcement officer received information of their whereabouts. The suspects were subsequently tracked down and apprehended in Kwanokuthula. The victim’s vehicle was also recovered in Quba Street in Kwanokuthula.
Plettenberg Bay police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse confirmed that the third suspect was arrested on Wednesday 7 February.
“The levels of energy, determination and tenacity shown by Bitou law enforcement commander Siya Vandala and his officers while tracking down the last suspect was exhilarating,” commented Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier.
“The information came from various sources and every lead was followed up. Vandala led troops by example. Kwanokuthula police aided in the search during the day. All security stakeholders involved were unbelievably focused. K9 Blackie followed the tracks and the last suspect was placed under arrest. The local residents that witnessed the arrest were jubilant.”
