John Graham, Knysna:

I refer to the editorial, “Open, transparent communication = accurate stories”, in the Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) of 1 February.

I have great admiration for Elaine King and the entire KPH team, to such an extent that I am an avid reader of the paper. The very nature of journalism lends itself to criticism, because opinions are expressed on sensitive matters within sociopolitical and regional council matters etc. For the wellbeing of the community it is essential that senior personnel of establishments that are being reported on assist with explicit comments to allow accurate reporting.

In a letter published in KPH on 8 September 2016, I gave accolades to KPH for accurate reporting. This was written in response to one Roger who in his letter titled “Treat readers to feel-good front pages” blatantly criticised KPH for publishing allimportant “cold-blooded murders”.

My response threw the gauntlet back to Roger, questioning his thoughts if such heinous murders were committed on his family or friends.

Recent council/political matters in Knysna have been topsy-turvy with the removal and/ or replacement of highly paid personnel (even on full pay).

It is essential that the media are communicated with clearly, so as to allow “open, transparent, and accurate stories”.

Thank you, KPH team, for achieving same.
