Knysna angler top master in SA

- – Staff reporter

The Eden angling masters team did their district proud at the recent Rock and Surf Masters Tournament in Jeffreys Bay, taking the silver medal.

An angler from the Knysna Angling Club went a step further, though, and was awarded top honours at the tournament, which was held from 29 January to 3 February.

This made Kallie Erasmus from Plettenberg Bay (fishing for Knysna Angling Club) the top masters angler in the country, and secured his spot in the national team that will be taking on the Namibians in Henties Bay during December this year.

According to Eden Angling spokesperson Banie Vermeulen, the tournament kicked off in windy conditions but the Eden team stood their ground and by the end of the day one, Eden held fourth position.

“We slipped back to fifth on day two but our masters showed their class by taking the silver medal, only 5.50 points away from the gold medal,” he said.

Vermeulen said it was Erasmus who caught the biggest nonedible fish of the tournament, and was also crowned as the top angler over a three-year period in the masters division.
