Barrel of laughs for Masithandane

-

After what can only be described as one of the most successful careers in SA stand-up history, Barry Hilton’s show, “Evolver”, takes it to the next level.

Forged in the fire of the global comedy circuit from London to Hong Kong, this versatile and dynamic comedy icon works the room with magnetic charm and infectious ease.

Evolver promises to bring fans a vibrant and hyper-alert Hilton, with brand-new material.

Gentleman comic

With sets that are never vulgar, malicious nor mean of spirit, but always funny, Hilton is known to several generations as a gentleman comic and a master craftsman with flawless timing, an unpredictable hairline and a gaze that doesn’t miss a thing.

Fans of Hilton can catch him in the Octopus Garden Under the Sea at the Scarab Village in Sedgefield on Saturday 7 April. The park will open at 17:30 in preparation for the show, which will start at 18:30. Proceeds of the show, for which tickets cost R120, will go to the Sedgefield NPO Masithandane, which means “Let us love one another” in isiXhosa.

Last year Masithandane celebrated its 11th birthday.

Worthy cause

“Our organisation works collectively and collaboratively in the targeted previously disadvantaged and isolated communities in Sedgefield,” says the organisation’s chair Jacky Weaver. “Challenges are high rates of unemployment, poor housing, a high crime rate, poor infrastructure, no public transport, an increasing HIV/Aids prevalence, gender inequality, gender-based violence, teen pregnancies and alcohol abuse,” she says.

Overcoming these challenges, among others, is what Masithandane is all about. To address these issues, as well as fund their Bursary Fund and save to be able to replace their vehicle that is beginning to prove costly in terms of replacement of parts and repairs, is what the Hilton show is aimed at.

According to Weaver, those attending the show may bring their own picnic, chairs, blankets and a torch.
