Everything happily fishy about this braai
The Pick n Pay Fish Braai Competition has become an institution at the Knysna Oyster Festival, showcasing the best of Knysna’s culinary talent.
This year’s winners and title of King of the Fish Braai went to Team Kolstert members Roland Rhode and Mack Morape, at the competition’s new venue at Woodmill Lane shopping centre. Rhode is a former winner of the Green Chefs Knysna community cooking competition and his passion for seafood was evident. The judges drooled over his lightly smoked yellowtail accompanied by grilled mushroom filled with bacon and root vegetables.
The winners were…
1. Team Kolstert: Roland Rhode and Mack Morape; 2. Team Trouter Space: Sheldon and Joshua Du Plessis; 3. Team Utash-Shisonyama: Melvin Mene and Tembelani Mbude; and 4. Pansy Cooks: Stacey Fredericks and David Jorette.
Mack Morape – team Kolstert, Linden Herwels – Eden District Environmental Health Practitioner, Jonathan Moldan – Source Food, Elona Van Zyl – Marketing Manager Pick n Pay Western Cape, and Roland Rhode – team Kolstert.
Onlooker Thembinkosi Boyisi said, “I was walking past and I got captured by the music. I caught a whiff of the aroma and I just had to come have a look. I’ve never been to one before.”
