Gardening @ Leisure

At the next meeting of Gardening @ Leisure on Friday 3 August, 10:00 at Leisure Isle Bowling Club, speakers Jayne Brink, Gina Potgieter and Roger Voysey will talk on the Seed Pod sculpture and Steenbok Nature Reserve. Visit Knysna Fine Art gallery at Thesen House to view works by establishe­d and new artists.

Visit the Old Gaol Gallery in Queen Street, Knysna to view works the exhibition African Wealth by artists Susi Rood and Thanduxolo Ma-awu until 22 August.

Township tours

Experience the vibe in the township, meet the people, visit the preschool in the morning, visit the hairdresse­r, grocer, cobbler and library. Enjoy tea in a home in the township with drumming and singing. This tour gives back to the community. Depart daily at 10:00 and 14:00. Cost: adults R400, children R150. Weeding Wednesday

Concordia free pet clinic

Every first Wednesday outside the Concordia library from 09:00 to noon. Free inoculatio­ns for dogs and cats, by Knysna Veterinary Clinic and Emzini Tours. We try to give collars to the dogs, give some pet education to everyone there, sign up as many for sterilisat­ion at KAWS as possible, then all the dogs get dewormed, inoculated, checked for fleas and mange and any other problems. Each dog receives a booklet with their informatio­n.

Bridge pairs mornings

Duplicate bridge every Wednesday and Thursday at the Knysna angling club. R30 playing fee includes tea/coffee. All welcome on a “walk in” basis. Players can stay after play when Heidi Atkinson will answer questions and go over any difficult hands at no charge, to encourage players to improve. Park it at the market

The Friday Market @ Knysna Montessori School is closed for the winter season, and will reopen in September.

Sedgefield: Wild Oats Community farmers’ market every Saturday morning (an award-winning market with over 60 stalls of the finest local farm produce, home bakes, plants and flowers, outdoor breakfast and live music), Scarab Craft Village and Mosaic Market, all in close proximity along the N2.

Plettenber­g Bay: Harkervill­e Saturday Market every Saturday morning offers food, art and craft and more, on the N2 midway between Knysna and Plettenber­g Bay.

It’s a Sunday thing

Liven up your Sunday by taking a leisurely drive to a popular Plett landmark, The Heath, and support locals who exhibit their handcrafte­d products and other goods, amid a festive atmosphere and live entertainm­ent – 09:00 to 15:00. You’ll still have time for your afternoon nap!

Run free

Knysna parkrun: free, timed 5km run every Saturday at 08:00, starting at grassed area next to the scout hall in George Rex Drive. The aim is to promote health and fitness. To register go to www.parkrun.co.za.

Harkervill­e parkrun: Start at the field opposite the Harkervill­e market on Saturdays, just off the N2 between Knysna and Plett (about 22km from Knysna). Please be there by 07:45.
