Knysna hit-and-run leaves PE family broken
The family of a Port Elizabeth man is in mourning after his body was found by the N2 highway near Brackenhill this past Sunday, and is calling on the community of Knysna and surrounds to come forward with any information that could bring the responsible party to justice.
According to Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the Knysna detective branch is investigating a case of culpable homicide after 25-year-old Jesheran Haigh’s body was found on 28 October at about 06:35.
Haigh had been visiting friends in Knysna. “Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that the deceased was hit by a vehicle. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation,” Spies said, adding that anyone with information on the incident may contact investigating officer Captain Carolus Heyser on 044 302 6652.
The deceased’s family contacted KnysnaPlett Herald shortly after the incident, saying they want closure and reiterating the police’s plea for anyone with information to come forward. According to mother Liesel Haigh, her son was an ambitious and humble man. “He had a good job, worked hard and would have been up for a promotion soon,” she said, adding that her son’s colleagues back home were just as shocked by the news of his death.
“We have cried bitterly about his loss,” Haigh’s mother said. “He was a pillar of strength for the family and all the youngsters looked up to him.”
