Tyololo bail appeal: new lawyer offers ‘new facts’

- Nwabisa Pondoyi

Former Knysna Taxi Forum secretary Mandla Tyololo, who is accused of conspiracy to commit the murder in July of local councillor Victor Molosi, is having another go at applying for bail, after his first attempt was denied by the Knysna Magistrate’s Court in October.

He appeared on Thursday 15 November, this time with his new counsel, advocate Ezra Morrison, after local attorney Carl Jeppe withdrew his services earlier this month.

Morrison said her client is reapplying for bail based on new facts. “It is my plea and prayer that the court will view these as substantial facts,” she said Morrison.

State prosecutor Vandana Premchand responded: “Bail was denied, so there are financial consequences and I don’t feel that these are new facts. These points have been canvassed in the original bail application. With that being said, I oppose bail application.

“As for the defence saying our case is weak, that is their opinion and we believe we have a strong case.”

Magistrate Flippie Hendricks remanded the matter to 27 November.
