Heartfelt gratitude from Knysna’s pearl
Pledge Nature Reserve, Knysna:
The board of trustees and the management committee as well as all of the other nonformal helpers and supporters of Pledge Nature Reserve Trust, even at this late stage of proceedings, wish to thank the Rotarians of Knysna and Chatsworth for their magnificent show of support during March of this year by helping plant indigenous trees at the reserve – in pouring rain.
The trustees also wish to thank KnysnaPlett Herald for carrying the many expressions of sympathy and thanks for the generous donations in cash (from R10 to R50 000) and in kind, and in many cases personal effort for helping to maintain the pearl in the centre of Knysna in such a manner that many locals who previously had not heard of or visited Pledge Nature Reserve, are now better informed and proud of having shown solidarity with Mother Nature by participating in one way or another.
The trustees were extremely impressed by donations of trees – some small and others still in pots but well established – by many donors, even from overseas… The list is too long to quote here.
Similarly there were groups, some formal and others impromptu, who donated some sweat without tears, but by the sounds that were heard, with much enjoyment and fun. There are volunteer groups – one being the Weeding Wednesday group – who are still making a contribution on an ongoing basis, particularly where elimination of alien vegetation is concerned.
Rebuilding of the residence and office, as well as storerooms and toilets, is due to start shortly and future educational facilities are also expected, and donations via memberships are welcome.
