Fat­her’s of three’s bo­dy found in Swart­vlei lake

A man’s bo­dy was found in Swart­vlei Lake ne­ar Sed­ge­field on Sa­tur­day mor­ning 5 Ja­nu­a­ry af­ter he went fis­hing with his three child­ren a­ged 16, se­ven and fi­ve.

Mo­ga­mad Fahried A­dams (46) took his child­ren out on a small ren­ted bo­at at Pi­ne Lake Ma­ri­na on F­ri­day af­ter­noon whi­le they we­re on holiday vi­si­ting friends.

W­hen they had not re­tur­ned by nig­ht­fall, A­dams’ wi­fe and friends rai­sed the a­larm and ot­her re­si­dents star­ted se­ar­ching with jet s­kis. Ac­cor­ding to NSRI Wil­der­ness de­pu­ty sta­ti­on com­man­der Mi­ke Vonk, the child­ren we­re found at 20:30 whi­le they we­re swim­ming to sho­re. On­ly the fi­vey­e­ar-old boy was we­a­ring a li­fe jac­ket.

“The child­ren said the bo­at they we­re on cap­si­zed and af­ter they lost sig­ht of their dad they star­ted swim­ming to sho­re,” he said.

At 21:45 the NSRI and ot­her e­mer­gen­cy ser­vi­ces we­re a­ler­ted and an ex­ten­si­ve wa­ter and sho­re­li­ne se­arch com­men­ced. A­dams’ bo­dy was found at 02:00 on Sa­tur­day mor­ning. Po­li­ce ha­ve o­pe­ned an in­quest doc­ket. –
