KPS succumbs to JBay

- Blake Linder

Knysna Primary School (KPS) recently hosted Jeffreys Bay and Brackenfell primary schools for rugby, netball, and hockey matches in the age groups U10 to U13.

KPS took on Jeffreys Bay first, playing two rugby matches and four netball matches on Wednesday 10 July. Unfortunately for them however, their rugby sides had not practised for five weeks due to two weeks of exams and three weeks of holidays, while their opponents apparently did have the opportunity to do so.

Due to this, KPS was unfortunately no match for the Jeffreys Bay teams as the U11 side lost 36-19. With a score of 33-26 for Jeffreys Bay, it was the KPS U13s' first loss of the year.

Next up, on 10 July, were the four netball matches at KPS, also against Jeffreys Bay, with the Knysna girls' (U10 to U13) hoping to fare better then boys did on the rugby field.

The girls were indeed able to churn out some better performances, as the U10 team started on a positive note by winning 5-3. The U11 team followed that up with an 8-8 draw, but was followed by the U12s losing 13-8. The U13s managed to finish the day off on an overall positive note, however, when they beat Jeffreys Bay 13-9.

A day later, and KPS was back in action against Brackenfell with the U13 rugby boys playing their second game in as many days, and unfortunately they suffered their second loss of the year as they went down 28-14. These boys have since been hard at work preparing for their upcoming tour of the Cape.

On the same day, the U13 girls played netball against Brackenfell as well, sadly losing 25-2. There were also two hockey matches played, with the U13 girls losing 1-0, and the U13 boys losing by the same margin.
