The Alphas and omega of sound community support

- Yolande Stander

The Plett Alphas Crew has been working hard over the past few months to make a difference in the New Horizons community in Plettenberg Bay.

Their most recent efforts included giving a local crèche, which was in need of some TLC, a facelift.

The Plett Alphas Crew is a car club based in New Horizons on the outskirts of town. Not only do they love their vehicles but they care deeply for their community and therefore decided to start initiatives to help uplift locals who need a helping hand.

Club member Lawrence Kriga said they noticed that the Theodora Creche was in need of some assistance and the crew decided to jump in and spruce the playground up by cleaning the gardens, securing the playground with timber rails, and giving the equipment a new coat of paint.

“This weekend we will be going back there to work some more. There are quite a few rocks under the swings and we plan to bring in some sand to ensure that the children don’t get hurt on the rocks,” Kriga said.

The crew does all their good deeds from their own pockets, but on 31 August they held a car-wash event in New Horizons to raise some funds to continue their efforts.

“This is only the beginning. We would like to make a difference in our community and have big plans for the future.”

They hope to soon put together some food parcels to distribute to those in dire straits. What the group aims to do is find problem areas or people in need in their community and do something about it. They kicked off their charitable work earlier this year by cleaning the New Horizons taxi rank. This was followed by surprising an elderly resident by giving her home a makeover.
