Spoofing The Bard

The Complete Works of William

Gardening @ Leisure

The next meeting of Gardening @ Leisure will be held on 6 September at 10:00, at Sassenheim Estate on the N2 towards Plett, on the left just before the Airport Road turn-off (Harkervill­e). Catch Freshlygro­und live in Knysna at Blend Country Restaurant on Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September at 14:00 (both days). Limited early bird tickets on Quicket at R180 until they sell out, thereafter R220.

National Parks Week

From 8 to 15 September, SA citizens can visit all national parks, including the three sections of the Garden Route National Park (Wilderness, Knysna and Tsitsikamm­a) for free on presenting of an ID.

Tree Society

On Sunday 8 September at 10:00, the Outeniqua branch of the Dendrologi­cal (Tree) Society will be visiting Hidden Valley, Ruigtevlei. The walk will be through fynbos which has not been burnt over 30 years, then through the forest margin transition­al zone to a viewpoint looking down indigenous forested slopes to the Karatara River. Movies, Musicals, Magic!

Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir showcases the best of the 20th and 21st century’s film and show music, including selections of the music from ABBA, Pirates of the Caribbean and Forrest Gump. Also on offer will be a Dixieland-flavoured Bare Necessitie­s, and rock classic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The highlight of the event will be a new medley from Les Misérables featuring four soloists, full choir and orchestra. Sunday 15 September (15:30) at the Dutch Reformed Church hall in Hoopoe Street, Sedgefield. Tickets cost R100 (adults), children under 18 free. More info: Elsabe 073 857 2952.

Knysna CPF AGM

Knysna Community Police Forum has over the years played a big role in keeping crime to an all-time low, while fighting crime “at grassroots level”. The CPF is therefore requesting the community to attend its AGM scheduled for 26 September at The Rock Church on the corner of Main and Queen Streets, at 18:00.

The Friday Market at Knysna Montessori School in Kanonkop Street, 16:00 - 20:30. Supervised parking, seating and shelter, bonfires and live music, a quality craft selection, a bar and an amazing choice of locally produced food enjoyed on the premises or at home.

Sedgefield: Wild Oats Community farmers’ market every Saturday morning (an award-winning market with over 60 stalls of the finest local farm produce, home bakes, plants and flowers, outdoor breakfast and live music), Scarab Craft Village and Mosaic Market, all in close proximity along the N2.

Plettenber­g Bay: Harkervill­e Saturday Market every Saturday morning offers food, art and craft and more, on the N2 midway between Knysna and Plettenber­g Bay.

Run free

Knysna parkrun: free, timed 5km run every Saturday at 08:00, starting at grassed area next to the scout hall in George Rex Drive. The aim is to promote health and fitness. To register go to www.parkrun. co.za.

Harkervill­e parkrun: Start at the field opposite the Harkervill­e market on Saturdays, just off the N2 between Knysna and Plett (about 22km from Knysna). Please be there by 07:45.
