A Great Gatsby time was had by all at a Plett Dinner Club fundraiser

- Staff reporters

A group of residents in Plettenberg Bay who call themselves the Plett Dinner Club hosted a Great Gatsby fundraiser at Ouland Royale recently.

The Gatsby theme was loved by all with individual handmade headpieces, ostrich feathers, five-star cuisine and 1920s music put together to perfection by Wilja the owner of Ouland Royale.

Robert Bokelmann, a realtor in the town, started the Plett Dinner Club about a year ago and it has grown to over 200 members who "dine for a reason – not for a season". They pull together to support community upliftment causes and charities while taking advantage of the amazing cuisine and scenic venues that Plettenberg Bay has to offer. Their policy is one of inclusion where all are welcome, they say.

Stalwarts on the team that have been there for the dinner club from early on are Alet Ollemans and Kevin Engelsman from Seeff, who through their help and support, helped raise a total of R16 600 for the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association on Saturday 5 October. Over the last year they have helped the Plett Dinner Club raise about R100 000 for various charities including campaigns against woman abuse, instilling moral codes into schools with the Way to Happiness, buying fire hoses for firefighters, and Muddy Pooches and more.

The Plett Dinner Club has pulled the community together in a proactive manner with the idea that "something can be done about it" – bringing to an end an era of cliques, discrimination and the pointing of fingers in Plett. See Facebook/Plett Dinner Club for more information. –
