Tuskies trample Thembalethu
Knysna High School's cricket teams have got off to a good start in the SWD Schools Promotion League with both sides yielding positive results in the first two weeks of the league.
The Tuskies are as usual represented in the league by two teams in their own respective age groups, in the U15 and U 19 Promotion League. The teams face off against other teams from around the Southern Cape, with the end game of the league to be promoted to the SWD Schools Premier League.
Knysna High's two teams kicked off their campaigns with games on Saturday 5 October with the U15s playing at home against the Thembalethu Cricket Hub while the U19s played away to PW Botha College. Tuskies' U15s got the season off to a slightly shaky start, only managing to score 96 runs thanks to a 25 from Brandon Fortuin.
Their bowling would be just too much for Thembalethu to see through, as the home side managed to bowl Thembalethu out for 88, earning Tuskies an eight-run victory thanks to Brandon, Keegan Lourens, and Diego Harker claiming two wickets each. The U19 side would also bat first, faring better than their juniors as they managed to score 172 with Johan Zeelie top scoring with 69 runs.
PW Botha wouldn't do too well with bat in hand, however, as they were skittled out for a measly 61 runs thanks to three wickets for Adrian Arlie and two from Johan, handing him the man-of-the-match award and Knysna High a 111-run victory.
The weekend thereafter the U19 side would play Thembalethu at home on the Knysna High sports fields on 12 October while the U15 would play away to the Rosemoor Cricket Hub. The U19s would put on an impressive showing once again as they managed to bowl Thembalethu out for only 92, with Johan again among the wickets, claiming three this time. Kyle Groome would top-score with bat in hand as he managed an unbeaten 38 to steer Tuskies to a two-wicket victory over Thembalethu.
The U15 side wouldn't fare as well as their U19 counterparts unfortunately as they were bowled out for only 86 by Rosemoor who had won the toss and sent KHS in to bat first, with Elro Spries top-scoring for Tuskies with 28. Rosemoor would make light work of the chase as they managed to reach the target of 87 having only lost three wickets.
