Granting Santa’s early Christmas wish
Christmas came a couple of months early this year – and it was Santa who received the gift.
Thanks to a modelling show and competition held as a fundraiser at the Hornlee Civic Centre on Friday 18 October, the SA Tuberculosis Association's (Santa) Knysna branch received the proceeds.
The Santa Knysna office has been tackling the issue of tuberculosis in Hornlee and other Knysna areas for the past 36 years, holding numerous fundraisers and awareness programmes over this period. The most recent one came in the form of the modelling show and Miss Santa competition, with an invitation to the ladies of Hornlee and Knysna to come along and strut their stuff on the catwalk.
And came they did, with 13 ladies taking part in the competition that kicked off shortly after 20:00, beginning a glamorous and joyous evening that provided great fun for not only the ladies who were bossing the catwalk, but also the crowd, who were lapping at their feet.
The ladies made their way up and down the catwalk in different attire during the evening, donning both casual and formal evening wear in an attempt to win over the judges.
This proved tough for the judges as there were quite a few contenders, but they eventually had to make up their minds as to who would be Miss Santa 2019. The judges chose Beverley de Bruyn as Miss Personality for the evening, with Shanna Wabanie and Gemma-Lee Kiewiet crowned as second and first princesses respectively.
There could only be one Miss Santa 2019, however, and the crown went to Yandiswa Vuyelwa. The event managed to generate almost R3 500, which the organisation says will go a long way to assisting it in its battle against TB.
