Knysna Garden Club

The club meets on Wednesday 30 October at 09:45 for 10:00 at Bright Berries farm on the Barrington road. The farm has been rebuilt and replanted after being destroyed in the 2017 fires. Bring chair, hat, walking shoes and refreshmen­ts. Visitors welcome. Directions: phone 044 387 1966.

Coast trace fossils talk

On Thursday 31 October, Knysna U3A will have Dr Charles Helm do a presentati­on on the highlights of his trace fossil discoverie­s of the past decade along the Southern Cape's coast at Brenton community hall at 10:00. These discoverie­s include evidence of hominin activity such as 90 000-year-old footprints on the coast near Knysna. A portion of the talk will be devoted to sites along the Breton stretch of coastline. Helm is a research associate with the African Centre for Coastal Palaeoscie­nce, NMU. He has made numerous fossil discoverie­s, and led the creation of the Tumbler Ridge Unesco Global Geopark in 2014. Doors open 09:30 for refreshmen­ts served. Members R5, visitors R10, all welcome. Gardening @ Leisure

On Friday 1 November at 10:00, DP Ferreira will talk on "Gardening for the vase" at a lovely property in Bibby's Hoek. Directions: Take Rheenendal road off the N2, follow for 14km. At Tottie's Country

Store on left, take next right onto Bibby's Hoek road. Follow 1.5km until you boom for Goudveld, turn right and proceed to last property on left, with a small gate and sign "Woodcutter­s Forest Cottages". Visitors welcome at R20. Bring chair, hat, mug & money for raffle. We will be serving Liqui Fruits and water, plus our normal eats.

Tree Society outing

The Dendrologi­cal (Tree) Society Outeniqua visits Diepwalle Forest Station in the Knysna forest on Sunday 3 November at 10:00. There will be an introducti­on talk by ex-forrester Georg vd Bussche, a visit to the forest museum and the indigenous tree arboretum, followed by a short walk along the Elephant Walk. Afterwards a BYO picnic at Velbroeks Draai with a short walk to the Big Tree. Visitors welcome at R20. Directions: on the N2, take the Uniondale turn-off (R339 about 6km east of Knysna), drive about 18km to King Edward Big Tree on left – entry to forest station almost directly opposite. Musical Gifts

The Knysna Singers concert Musical Gifts will take place on Sunday 3 November at 15:00 in St George's Church Hall. Tickets R75 at the door or from choir members. Proceeds donated to Knysna Animal Welfare Society (Kaws).
