Soccer action sustained

- Blake Linder

Knysna Local Football Association's (KLFA) Domestic League continued with exciting action over the weekend that saw a remarkable 26 goals scored, with 10 coming in one game alone.

The 2019/20 season of the Domestic League kicked off nearly two weeks ago on 26 October, with both of the newly promoted sides (Slow Town and Pine Stars) as well as every member of last season's final top four in action on matchday 1. On this first matchday, only five games were played with 19 goals being scored, as defending champions Young Boys claimed the biggest win of the day having swept aside Slow Town 7-1 in Smutsville.

Both sides would have more evenly matched fixtures on the second matchday of the fledgling season, with Young Boys taking on African Roots who beat Pine Stars 2-1 in their season opener and Slow Town coming up against CX Swallows who previously went down 2-0 to FC Rebels. Despite their best efforts, Young Boys would not be able to sweep aside African Roots and were only able to grind out a 1-1 draw while Slow Town would put in a much-improved performance that saw them bag a 2-2 draw with CX Swallows.

The match of the weekend arguably came between FC Rebels who were on a high after their first game, and Young Chiefs who were yet to open their account for the season. While the game would go up and down like a rollercoaster,

FC Rebels would emerge 6-4 victors. This wouldn't be the biggest margin of victory for the day however, as Pine Stars put on an impressive showing against Two for Joy, who they managed to thump 8-1.

In the other two games of the weekend, 2018/19 runners-up Smuts United beat Flamingo 1-0 while Red Eagles were handed a 2-0 walk-over victory against Ocean Eleven.
