Bikers patched for life
Knysna’s newest motorcycling club Bikers4Life has finally officially been recognised after its members received their “patches” on Saturday 9 November from the SWD Motorcycle Association – the regional organisation functioning under the umbrella body Motorcyclists SA.
A patch, essentially, is the badge that bikers wear on the back of their jackets and is key to identifying which club you belong to within the biking community. Without one, your club is not officially recognised.
B4L initially started out as a social gathering among friends to simply enjoy biking. Eventually however, the decision was made to formalise the group and register with Motorcyclists SA (MCSA), the national bike club register and social community of like-minded bikers.
The club first registered with MCSA in October last year, but to become a fully recognised member takes a year, during which a number of guidelines need to be met, pending approval.
B4L followed the ‘guidelines and rules “to a T’’, and at the final SWD MCA monthly meeting of 2019 on 9 November at Bosuns Pub & Grill, their year of waiting for approval finally came to an end when they received the club patches from SWD MCA president Havie Havenga. B4L president Shane Mopp and vice president Danie Wolmarans accepted their patches on behalf of the club, and after the meeting concluded, proceeded to hand out patches to the rest of the club’s members.
