Aside from the professional golfers who took over Simola Golf & Country Estate two weeks ago, there was also a host of amateur and women's golf action too.

This is the 16th year of the Origins series, where invited VIP amateurs play alongside the Sunshine Tour professionals in a two-day proam on South Africa’s top golf courses.

Double delight for Dlamini

The Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals have competed alongside the men’s Sunshine Tour professionals in the five 36-hole pro-ams of the Origins series, but were also playing in their own individual women’s competition for their own prize money.

Scholtz crowned champion

Bloemfontein businessman Ronaldo Scholtz won the trip of a lifetime to the

Seychelles thanks to his victory in the Origins pro-am series on the Sunshine Tour.

Gouws teamed up with Sunshine Tour professional Hennie du Plessis to win the 36-hole final with a better-ball score of 94 points and by 5 points over the rest of the field at Simola.

The financial director of Konica Minolta can now look forward to a week in the Seychelles with his wife Belinda-Lee as the reward for his efforts on the fairways. “I practised quite a bit leading up the final. Then my professional partner, Hennie du Plessis, played like a superstar. He shot a 63 on the second day. We enjoyed each other’s company and it was such a pleasure,” said Scholtz.

Scholtz has been playing the series for 12 years and has qualified for the final on five occasions. This year he qualified by virtue of his victory in the tournament at Sishen Golf Club. This is the first time he has managed to win the national final.
