Tourist robbed at knifepoint in home invasion

- Yolande Stander

A German tourist was robbed at knifepoint during a home invasion in Mangold Point in Plettenberg Bay last week.

Plett Watch’s Lisa Nagel reported that just before 19:00 last week Tuesday 12 November, two suspects entered the house and allegedly overpowered the tourist. It is believed that while holding him at knifepoint and throwing a blanket over him, the suspects demanded the location of the home’s safe. “The suspects got away with a large sum of foreign currency and the man’s passport,” Nagel said.

She added that various crime fighting authorities responded, but the suspects managed to disappear.

“There are many opportunistic criminals around, particularly this time of year, when parolees are released from prison. Please keep your doors locked, or at the very least, your security gates, when you are in your house. If outside on your deck or in the garden, ensure that you are aware of movement in the street and in your property. These criminals are quick to take a chance and more often than not, they carry a knife or some sort of weapon.”

“Please warn your neighbours, family, holidaymakers, tourists and domestic staff to be vigilant at all times. Before going to sleep at night, please also check your garden gates and garage doors, to make sure they are closed. Our patrollers often find open gates, which are an invitation for a criminal to walk into your property.”
