Sport Academy bids 2019 adieu

- Blake Linder

Knysna Sport Academy ended its year on a high on Monday 18 November when it welcomed guests to its year-end function to thank them for their support throughout the year.

Formerly called the Knysna Sport School, the academy plays an integral role in sports development in Knysna, offering programmes in cycling, golf, and cricket. It has been a fruitful year for KSA in 2019, with four of their cyclists achieving SWD colours this year along with two cricketers achieving SWD colours too, while there has also been considerable growth in the number of girls cyclists too.

KSA manager Iain Coetzee opened the evening to a crowd that included representatives from Knysna Primary School (KPS) and the academy's Development Trust, as well as various individuals who have assisted KSA throughout the year. The trust is the main benefactor of KSA, who run their programmes in a partnership with Knysna Primary School.

Speaking on behalf of the trust on the evening, Chick Ramsay spoke fondly of the success that the academy has seen this year, echoing the sentiments of KPS principal Rob Stoker who was also proud of the work that the academy has done this year, and what it has achieved.

The academy has also partnered with Bright Shining Minds Sports Development Agency, an organisation that focuses on developing sport in lesser-developed areas to further the abilities of children who are looking to take up sport.
