Mr SA-hopeful’s high goals

- Blake Linder

Capetonian-turned-Plettonian Kyle Hans is determined to make the most of the opportunity to make a difference that he has been granted through the 2020 Mr SA competition, where he is a top-100 contestant.

Hans (30) grew up in Cape Town but moved to Plettenberg Bay in 2013 and hasn't looked back since, becoming a passionate Plettonian in the six years that he has called the Garden Route his home. Hans is a determined competitor in the 2020 competition, and is aiming for nothing but top prize, a competitive drive that can be attributed to his previous sporting days.

While he is now a manager at a construction company, Hans previously played professional rugby for Evergreens, SWD, as well as Griquas, while also being a provincial gymnast. Hans firmly believes in the positive impact sport can have on a community. "I have seen the impact that sports have in various communities," Hans said.

"Role modelling positive, active behaviour instils confidence, respect and a dream that irrespective of where you are, or where you come from, anything is possible."

He entered the 2020 Mr SA competition with a reason, and he is not resting on his laurels. "I see Mr SA as a platform through which to address many issues ranging from sport, gender-based violence, differently-abled issues, the elderly, and more." Furthermore, Hans sees himself as an influencer, hoping to bring out the best in people regardless of age, race, or social standing.

Even though his focus is on winning top prize at the 2020 Mr SA, his long-term goals stretch far beyond the boundaries of the competition. "My dream is to one day have my own charity," Hans said. "I know sport brings all races together, and keeps the young off the streets. It teaches kids basic everyday skills as well as respect. So one day I'll have my own sports organisation where I would get in touch personally with the communities of South Africa." Hans is a Christian who takes a strong stance with his faith. "I believe that you must put God first and have faith. My motto that I'm living by is 'Get out of your bad situation, get up, rise up, and be proud'."

If you would like to express your support for Hans, you can vote "MRSA94" via SMS to 40439 (R2 per SMS). "Thank you to the loyal voters. Please help to continue to make this dream a reality," he said.
