Battle of Rorke's Drift

At the next U3A Knysna general meeting, Mike Sankey will talk about the coincidenc­es of the Battle of Rorke's Drift, where about 150 British and colonial troops during the Anglo-Zulu War defended the station against attacks by up to 4 000 Zulu warriors. Many other facts will be revealed by Mike at the Brenton community hall on of Thursday 28 November. Doors open 09:00 when refreshmen­ts and festive fare will be served. All welcome. Concordia pet clinic

Every first Wednesday outside the Concordia library from 09:00 to 11:00 at R20 per animal. Inoculatio­ns for dogs and cats, by Knysna Veterinary Clinic and Emzini Tours. We try to give collars to the dogs, give some pet education to everyone there, sign up as many for sterilisat­ion at Knysna Veterinary Clinic as possible, then all the pets get dewormed, inoculated, treated for ticks and fleas and mange and any other problems. Each animal receives a booklet with their informatio­n.

Embroidery Guild

The Knysna Embroidery Guild meets the first Wednesday of the month at the Cearn Hall in Leisure Isle at 09:30 (please arrive a little earlier). Everyone welcome, experience­d or novice, and bring your work to show or request assistance with. We are a relaxed group and like busy hands. No charge for visitors, except for tea and cake at R20. Outdoor Art Fair

Park it at the market

The Friday Market at Knysna Montessori School in Kanonkop Street, 16:00 - 20:30. Supervised parking, seating and shelter, bonfires and live music, a quality craft selection, a bar and an amazing choice of locally produced food enjoyed on the premises or at home.

Sedgefield: Wild Oats Community farmers' market every Saturday morning (an award-winning market with over 60 stalls of the finest local farm produce, home bakes, plants and flowers, outdoor breakfast and live music), Scarab Craft Village and Mosaic Market, all in close proximity along the N2.

Plettenber­g Bay: Harkervill­e Saturday Market every Saturday morning offers food, art and craft and more, on the N2 midway between Knysna and Plettenber­g Bay.

Township tours

Experience the vibe in the township, meet the people, visit the preschool in the morning, visit the hairdresse­r, grocer, cobbler and library. Enjoy tea in a home in the township with drumming and singing. This tour gives back to the community. Depart daily at 10:00 and 14:00. Cost: adults R400, children R150.
