Wise words from George Council
The council meeting of the Garden Route District Municipality on Monday provided some food for thought, as uttered by the municipal gatekeepers. George Herald journalist Michelle Pienaar made a few notes: "If you are hanging out with friends, partying over the weekend and don't comply to the Covid-19 recommendations and regulations after hours, that might be held against you at work." - DA Councillor Rowan Spies shared a current labour law opinion. "Nobody – no single individual in this country – has the right to take the law into his own hands. We are all subject to the rule of law and we have to adhere to the municipal processes if we want to do something on our own land, let alone on public land." - PBI Councillor Virgill Gericke's comment on current developments at Victoria Bay.
"It is not the beds that cure the people, it is the nurses and the doctors." - Head of Disaster Management Gerhard Otto expressed his concern for the rapid increase in people, including staff members of George Hospital, who are being hospitalised as a result of Covid-19. "There is still uncertainty for people in disadvantaged areas to know what to do, where to go, and what procedures to follow if you suspect you are positive." - ANC Councillor Piet van der Hoven on the matter of selfisolation in townships.
