Vote for Plett for top beach award
Plettenberg Bay is in the running for the coveted title of Africa’s leading beach destination for an 11th consecutive year and needs the public’s vote to secure the top spot once more. This should come as no surprise, however, as the town has been dominating the annual Blue Flag awards over the past few years. In the most recent awards, six of the town’s beaches received the status. Despite being a small holiday destination, Plett finished just behind Cape Town – which secured 10 sites – in the Blue Flag race in the Western Cape. Nationally, Plett had the thirdhighest number of beaches with this prestigious title. Plett's Blue Flag beaches include Robberg 5 (for the 10th consecutive time); Keurbooms Strand (eighth time); Natures' Valley (seventh); Lookout Beach (fifth); The Dunes (third); and The Singing Kettle Beach (second). World Travel Awards, which annually crowns Africa's leading beach destinations, produces a list of destinations which are then voted for by travel professionals and consumers. The place with the most votes secures the title.
Other contenders in the competition include Cape Town, Bazaruto in Mozambique, Diani Beach in Kenya, Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt and Zanzibar in Tanzania.
