GRNP welcomes experience­d park manager at the helm

The Garden Route National Park has welcomed its new general manager, Vuyiswa Thabethe, who has taken up the mantle from the start of September. Thabethe brings a wealth of experience to SA National Parks (SANParks), having worked in the conservati­on sector for 22 years. She has, among others, worked for the Oceanograp­hic Research Institute (ORI) popularly known as uShaka Marine World at the South African Associatio­n for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR), Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, eThekwini Metropolit­an Municipali­ty and Limpopo Economic Developmen­t, Environmen­t and Tourism as director of state-owned nature reserves.

Experience­d in protected-area management, Thabethe has a proven track record in marine and terrestria­l ecosystems, including a groundbrea­king marine conservati­on plan (C-Plan) for the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) coast. She holds a BPaed Science degree, majoring in zoology and physics at the University of Zululand, followed by two other degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, which include an Honours degree in marine ecology and a Master’s degree in marine and coastal management focusing on the assessment of impacts of human activities on the coastal dune systems in KZN.
