SEDGEFIELD – One man has been arrested in connection with a robbery that took place at Myoli Beach in Sedgefield on Sunday afternoon, 18 July. According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies, the 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday 19 July. "Investigation into this incident reveals that the 33-year-old woman parked her vehicle and went for a stroll on the beach at about 18:40 when she was accosted by the suspect," Spies said. "It is further alleged that he forced her into the bushes where he assaulted her.

He took her personal belongings and [her] small pet dog whereafter he fled the scene in the victim's Volkswagen Polo." The woman sustained serious head injuries during the ordeal. "She went to seek assistance at a nearby residence whereafter the homeowner alerted authorities and pursued the suspect. He attempted to stop the vehicle at Dover Street, Sedgefield, but the suspect got out and fled on foot." According to Spies, investigators tracked him down in Smutsville where he was arrested late yesterday afternoon. The suspect remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 21 July.

He is facing charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and theft of a motor vehicle. All of the woman's belongings, including her vehicle and her dog, were returned to her.

"More charges might be added as the investigation unfolds," said Spies.
