Super restart for Voota, Richmond

- Blake Linder

KNYSNA - The KLFA Super League returned to action last weekend with games on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 August, where the top two sides, Voota and Richmond City, returned to their fine form. The league returned after an almost two-month-long break which the Knysna Local Football Association (KLFA) brought about due to the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. After the last round of games played on 26 and 27 June, Voota was unbeaten at the top of the table, one point ahead of Richmond City, that were in turn followed by Crossroads a further point behind.

Prior to last weekend’s games only Voota and Crossroads had gone unbeaten in this season, however Crossroads had drawn too many games to capitalise on their unbeaten run. With two spots in the KLFA Domestic League still up for grabs for sides in the Super League, the three sides had all to play for when games resumed on Saturday. Of the three in contention for promotion, Crossroads was up first with a clash against fourth-placed Mthatha City. It was the worst kind of start to the weekend for Crossroads as they lost the game 2-1. Richmond City was up next against Young Strikers in what would be the highest-scoring game of the weekend

- a 7-1 triumph for the former. Voota held their own in a hard-fought 4-1 comeback win against Warriors. Crossroads ultimately redeemed themselves in their second game, beating Sinako 4-0. Richmond City secured all three points against Southern Stars with a 2-0 win, while Voota did the same with a 2-0 win against Eleven

Attackers.

None of the top three were in action on Sunday, but Pine Stars’ second side earned the biggest victory of the day with a 6-0 triumph over Eleven Attackers who, after eight games, are yet to score any points this season. After the weekend’s games, Voota and Richmond City are still first and second respectively and remain separated by only one point.

However, due to their loss, Crossroads are now four points off Richmond City in third place.

To secure promotion, both Voota and Richmond City need to only gain one point from their last two games this weekend. Crossroads will need to win both of their outings and hope that neither of the top two score any points if they want to return to the KLFA Domestic League.
