Alleged trailer thief nabbed
PLETTENBERG BAY - Thanks to a vigilant motorist, a stolen trailer was recovered in Keurbooms last week. Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said that a passing motorist noticed a taxi hooking up a trailer from the bushes near the Keurbooms Garage late last Sunday night. "The motorist said it looked suspicious and informed the security officer at Twin Rivers Estate. He immediately reported the incident to his control office. An alert was posted on the PBCPA react group," Olivier said.
The Wittedrift Neighbourhood Watch group responded to the Keurbooms Garage, but the taxi was no longer in the area. "While PBCPA responders were driving on the N2, they noticed the taxi with the trailer. They notified control and proceeded to follow it to Kwanokuthula," said Olivier. Plett Security, with the assistance of Smhart Security responders, pulled the taxi over in the presence of Kwanokuthula police. "The taxi owner was placed under arrest for alleged possession of stolen goods and the trailer was confiscated." Following further investigation, the owner of the trailer was traced and it came to light that the theft had been captured on CCTV. "A huge shout-out to the vigilant motorist, PBCPA patrollers, Plett Security and Smhart Alarms response officers for being alert and crime-wise. The excellent response resulted in the positive outcome."
