Decreases for Knysna and Bitou
REGIONAL - After an increase last week, both active and new cases have decreased in Bitou this week, with Knysna also continuing its downward trajectory in both metrics.
It's been a week since President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the easing of restrictions on events and liquor sales as part of the country's move to lockdown level 2, along with the curfew being changed to fall between the hours of 23:00 and 04:00 every evening.
The country also continues to gradually make its way out of the third wave, with the national and provincial vaccination drive powering ahead. As at Monday 20 September the Western Cape had administered a total of 2 666 184 vaccines to the people of the province. Meanwhile, the Garden Route has managed to administer 244 486 vaccines, as at Wednesday morning.
When it comes to vaccine registrations, the province finally crossed the twomillion mark late last week. As at Tuesday 21 September, 2 077 088 people had registered to receive the vaccine. The Garden Route makes up 9,14% of these, with a total of 189 863 registrations. The 60+ age group stands on 63 738 registrations, the 50 to 59 group on
35 942, the 35 to 49 age group has 54 636 registrations, and the 18 to 34 age group has seen 35 547 registrations. Further, in Knysna, there has been a total of 27 128 registrations for the vaccine (53,58% of the eligible population) while Bitou has seen 15 933 registrations (42,28% of eligible people).
As at Tuesday 21 September, Knysna had recorded a total of
7 946 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 488 have recovered, 258 have died, and 200 are active cases. This indicates a total of 102 new cases in the seven days between 14 and 21 September, which amounts to a 22,72% decrease (-30) from the previous week.
The number of active cases also dropped by 28,57% (-80) this week, the lowest number since 22 June.
The recovery rate has risen again and stands on 94,24% (93,31% last week). The deaths have however increased for the 14th week in a row with a rise of +13, with the mortality rate now on 3,2%. In Bitou as at Tuesday, 4 218 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 3 858 having recovered, 128 having died, and 232 being active cases.
This shows a total of 114 new cases recorded between 14 and 21 September, dropping by 28,75% (-46) from last week. With the active cases dropping by the margin of 12,12% (-32) this week, it is the lowest number in a month for Bitou. The recovery rate rose here too, standing on 91,47% (90,55% last week).
The deaths have risen by four this week, the joint-highest rise during the third wave, and the mortality rate stands on 3%.
