PLETTENBERG BAY - A man from Wittedrift on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of the brutal murder of another local man.

Jason Williams (27) was handed his sentence in the Knysna Regional Court earlier this month.

He was convicted of the murder of Daniel Mostert at his home in Wittedrift on 12 May 2017. According to court documents, Mostert's body was found with several stab wounds to his neck and torso.

During the incident a BMW 530i, two laptops, two television sets, a cellphone and other valuables were stolen. Police found his vehicle a few kilometres from the scene, which led officers to his home where they discovered his body.

At the time of the incident, Mostert was living alone after his partner was also murdered a few months earlier. Williams was charged with murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. He was convicted on both counts and was sentenced to life behind bars for the murder and 15 years imprisonment for the robbery. The sentences will be served concurrently.
