Covid-19 cases down in Knysna, level in Bitou

REGIONAL - Having seen no increase or decrease last week, this week the number of active Covid-19 cases has decreased in Knysna while Bitou has seen no change in their number after decreasing last week.

As at Monday 28 March, the Western Cape has seen 2 966 535 registrati­ons for the Covid-19 vaccine, 52,85% of the eligible population.

In the Garden Route a total of 258 840 people have registered for the vaccine, 52,28% of the eligible population.

In Knysna there has been a total of 36 620 vaccine registrati­ons, which is 63,79% of the eligible population. Bitou has seen a total of 22 522 vaccine registrati­ons, 53% of the eligible population.

As at Tuesday 29 March, Knysna had recorded a total of 9 827 cases of Covid-19, of which 9 489 have recovered, 287 have died, and 51 are active cases. The number of new cases in the past week, 24, represents a decrease of 14,29% (-4) in new cases from the week before.

The active cases also decreased this week, falling by 7,27% (-4). The recovery rate has risen ever so slightly, up to 96,56% (96,51% last week). The deaths have remained the same.

In Bitou as at Tuesday, 5 711 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 5 548 having recovered, 144 having died, and 19 being active cases. This shows 15 new cases recorded between 22 and 29 March, an increase of 66,67% (+6).

The active cases stayed the same in Bitou this week, the first time this has happened here since 27 April 2021. The recovery rate is now 97,15% (97,14% last week), and the mortality rate is 2,5%. The deaths have stayed the same for the third week in a row.
