Angelique finishes 3rd in Miss Earth SA pageant
KNYSNA - Local model Angelique Fourie has represented Knysna well on the national stage, making the town proud by finishing as the second runner-up in the recent Miss Earth SA competition.
Fourie, 26, was one of 10 finalists who went through to the final in the Miss Earth SA competition, which was held in Johannesburg on Thursday
29 September. She carried out various environmental welfare projects around Knysna during the course of the competition, including numerous treeplanting initiatives at local schools and a few clean-up projects.
"I have absolutely loved the journey with
Miss Earth SA. I gained so much knowledge over the last month, made some incredible connections and was able to make a difference while enriching minds at the same time," she said.
She was initially named as a Top 30 finalist during an announcement on 1 September, ultimately leading to her becoming one of the Top 10 for the grand final. Her work as a Miss Earth SA finalist stood out to the competition's judges, and was enough to earn her the title of second runner-up [or third place, in nonpageant speak]. "It feels incredible! But more so that the work has been recognised not only by the organisation but by the Knysna community too," she said of the achievement.
She is now also an official Miss Earth SA ambassador, and will continue to carry out work with the organisation within Knysna and across the country. "The organisation will also be joining me in Knysna to work on a few projects alongside me. Being an official ambassador means that I get to continue the work I have been doing with the full support of the Miss Earth SA organisation behind me and also being able to expand the work I've been doing into a larger area of the Garden Route," Fourie said.
She has also gained some life experience. "The biggest lesson I've learned... I would say that you have go stay true to yourself in everything you do and stick to that, regardless of what people may say. It's your journey, don't let anyone dictate it for you!"
