SEDGEFIELD - With the curtain already up for Sedgefield Melodrama 2023, the next show is raring and ready to go tonight, Thursday 21 September. There are also four more shows lying in wait over the next week, but the fourth is already sold out.

The final show on 29 September sold out weeks ago and the other nights have slowly begun to fill up. “If you don’t want to miss out, get your table together and buy your tickets sooner rather than later,” is the word from producer Margie van Rensburg. For those new to the area, the Melodrama is simply a must-watch. It really is a show by locals for locals and raises big money for local charities to boot.

Sitting around your “picnic table” with friends and family, you will get to enjoy a sizeable cast performing a bizarre, but verymuch tongue in cheek collection of numbers which, if past Melodramas are anything to go by, will have you clutching your sides with laughter. Imagine, for example, seeing your hairdresser dressed as an ostrich and strutting his (or her) stuff on stage as she (or he) lip-syncs to Born to be Wild, while your family doctor (in his giant cockatoo costume) flaps about in the background...

Well, stranger things have happened at the Sedgefield Melodrama.

This is the 12th edition of the spectacular show, and charities will certainly be

applauding as it adds even more funds to the well over a million total raised since the first Melodrama opened way back when.

The ticket booth is still at the location where Sedgefield Tourism was at CycleWorx.

A dedicated person is stationed there on weekdays from 09:00 to 12:00. If you are unable to get there during the day, you are also welcome to contact Margie (060 773 2433 or margie.maffeis@gmail.com) after hours for assistance.

“This year we are really lucky to have

Norman Anstey as our compère,” says Margie. “He and his wife have settled in Sedgefield and are both amazingly talented, so it is wonderful to have someone of such high calibre on board!”

Norman is a celebrated South African actor, singer, voice artist, presenter and MC.

He is best known for the roles in the television serials such as Black Sails, Heartlines and Snitch. Most South Africans however would remember his signature line “Ja Boet” from a series of Castrol advertisements.

Opening night kicked off at Sedgefield Primary School on 19 September with table wine sponsored by Tavcor BAIC and JAC.

All the shows will also feature lucky draws for audience members. The show dates are 21, 22, 26, 28 and 29 September.

“Directors Ian Perryman and Janice Gibson, the cast and the crew have been rehearsing non-stop for the last couple of months and cannot wait to entertain you,” enthuses Margie. “We promise to deliver an amazing show!”
