Elro selected for Badgers U19s

KNYSNA - Local cricketing prospect Elro Spies was once again announced as part of the Garden Route Badgers U19 squad this week. They will take ta part in the CSA Khaya Majola U19 tournament t that will be hosted in Makhanda Makh (formerly Grahamstow­n) from 16 to 20 December.

Spies, Spie a Grade 12 learner at Knysna High School, Scho is no stranger to the U19 setup. This is the third straight year that he has been selected select as part of the squad, having earned his first r call-up when he was just 16 years old. A talented leg-spinner who offers an array of variations as well as a safe pair of hands hand in the field, Spies is also a top-order batsman, batsm certifying him as a batting allrounder. round

He has also represente­d the SWD union at the U13 U level and will be bringing a wealth of experience ex of age-group provincial cricket this year. y Further to this, Spies has also been playing playin club cricket for the Knysna Cavaliers for three th years already, a factor that can only bolster bolste his prospects going forward.

The U19 team will not only be looking ahead to the Khaya Majola week at the end of the year, but will need to keep their sights firmly on the immediate challenge that awaits them in the form of the SWD T20 Competitio­n. Drawn in Pool E alongside George, Blanco and Thembaleth­u cricket clubs, the U19s will be starting the T20 campaign this weekend.

The youngsters will face all three of their opponents in one go on Saturday 23 September. First up is George, following which they will take on Blanco before the day concludes with their match against Thembaleth­u. All three fixtures will be played at Rooirivier­rif in George.
