Fathers connect at workshop

- Zoë Fick

KNYSNA - On Monday 11 September, the Heartlines Fathers Matter workshop took place at Hornlee Community Hall, with the programme aimed at fostering meaningful connections and support among men in the community.

The initiative sought to establish small conversation groups where men could gather, engage in discussions about the issues that matter to them, and offer support to one another, with the ultimate goal of adding value to their lives and empowering them to become mentors for the fatherless youth or those in need of positive role models. This programme was organised by the Knysna Alcohol and Drug Centre (KADC) and Heartlines, in collaboration with key stakeholders. The programme ran from 11 to 14 September with various workshops and group sessions on each day.

The event was a follow-up to the successful Heartlines Fathers Matter Programme, which included a roadshow held in July. The training session was led by Brett Anderson and Nkosinathi Sixabayi of Heartlines, with Pastor Abraham Windwaai partnering with KADC to implement this transformative initiative in the Hornlee Community.

The aim is to gradually extend its reach to other communities in Knysna.

Recognising the crucial role that fathers and positive male figures play in the lives of children and youth, the Heartlines Programme, in collaboration with KADC and other stakeholders, commits to being present and active wherever our children and youth may be. By implementing the programme in Hornlee initially, it wants to create a foundation for positive change and community development.

"This programme is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Knysna community towards fostering healthy relationships, addressing key issues, and building a stronger, more resilient society.

“By providing a platform for men to connect, share, and grow together, the Heartlines Programme, in collaboration with KADC and other stakeholders, is actively working towards a future where individuals support one another and where fatherless youth find guidance and positive role models," says Marshal Lamini of KADC.
