KNYSNA - On Saturday 16 September, nature enthusiasts gathered at Steenbok Nature Reserve in blustery weather to embark on a tree walk guided by Robert Smith and Ina Engelbrecht of the Dendrological Society of South Africa. The walk was held to commemorate Arbor Month.
Through their extensive knowledge of indigenous trees, the experts enriched the participants' understanding of the diverse flora found in the reserve.
The event provided valuable insights into the importance of tree conservation and highlighted the Arbor tree of 2023, the Buddleja saligna, also known as the false olive. The experts shared fascinating facts about the
Buddleja saligna, including its ecological importance and unique characteristics.
Participants were amazed by the beauty and variety of trees in the reserve. The experts highlighted the significance of preserving and appreciating these indigenous treasures, emphasising their role in the local ecosystem and their importance for environmental conservation.
